RV Furnace Repair in Colorado Springs, CO
Colorado Springs sits at 6,010 ft, and that is the first thing a good tech checks here. Under NFPA 54 (11.1.2) a propane appliance loses 4% of its rated input for every 1,000 ft above 2,000 ft, so at this elevation your furnace delivers about 16.0% less heat than the plate says. A 35,000 BTU unit is really putting out closer to 29,400 BTU. Owners read that as 'the furnace is weak' or 'it runs constantly and never catches up,' and go looking for a fault that isn't there.

The real failures at altitude are ignition-related. Thinner air changes the air-to-gas ratio at the burner, so a furnace that lit reliably at sea level can lock out on repeated failed ignition attempts, or light and then drop out on the sail switch. The fix is usually an orifice sized for elevation, not a new board.
With about 155 nights a year at or below freezing and 59 of those at 20F or colder, against a five-year low of -17.2F, a furnace failure here is not a comfort problem. It is a burst-pipe problem within hours, and the repair bill moves from a control board to a plumbing tear-out. That is why furnace calls in Colorado Springs get triaged as urgent.
